COSEE Great Lakes Advisor Wins National Marine Education Award

September 6, 2006

Janice McDonnell, a member of the COSEE Great Lakes Advisory Board, was presented with the National Marine Educators Association’s James Centorino Award for 2006. The Centorino Award honors excellence in marine science education by a teacher who works outside the traditional classroom setting. Janice was recognized for her history of outstanding performance as a marine science educator at the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University. She is an outreach educator with the Mid-Atlantic COSEE as well.

Ms. McDonnell was honored on July 17 at a ceremony during the National Marine Educators Association’s annual conference at Long Island University, Brooklyn New York. NMEA is a national professional organization founded in 1976 for all educators of marine and aquatic science. The Great Lakes regional chapter of NMEA is GLEAMS, the Great Lakes Educators of Aquatic and Marine Science. GLEAMS is currently being revitalized, and information will be posted as COSEE Great Lakes news when that process is complete.
