Great Lakes Institute 2006

August 15–17, 2006

  • K-12 educators (formal and non-formal) are invited to a 3-day workshop that will change your perspective on Lake Michigan.
  • Experience Lake Michigan on board the W.G. Jackson education vessel during a three-hour water quality cruise. Other sessions will focus on various aspects of the Great Lakes, from shipwrecks to fish species in this immersive two/night, three/day hands on workshop. Participants will reside in the cozy Learning Center cabins complete with showers and air-conditioning. This teacher retreat will showcase a variety of activities and resources to use in your classroom and provide ample time for reflection and networking with colleagues.
  • Sessions begin Tuesday morning and continue through Thursday afternoon.
  • Participants can earn 2 hrs. of graduate credit through Indiana University Northwest or Chicago State University, for an extra cost. Illinois teachers can receive CEUs for participating and Indiana teachers can receive CRUs.
  • Registration is limited to 40 participants with a minimum of 20; contact the IDELC at 219-395-9555 or email to receive a registration packet and reserve a spot. Cost of the workshop is $225 and includes meals, lodging and lots of materials!
